Morningside Villa
The owners of this traditional Victorian villa garden in Edinburgh had completely renovated and extended the property, and required a front and back garden to match. The clients travelled extensively, and required the garden to be relatively low maintenance, although they did have the services of a gardener.
The 60m long front garden had been subjected to numerous builders vehicles and skips for some months during the house renovation and was in serious need of some attention. The existing planting was retained and tamed, new lawn laid to either side of the mature avenue of trees and woodland planting added to the shadier areas at the entrance. The driveway had lighting installed and was edged with granite setts with a feature area near the house.
The rear garden is created for family use, entertaining and relaxing on a summer day. Materials used within the garden are traditional reflecting the buildings listed status and location in a conservation area. Access around the garden is via a self binding gravel path which leads to the restored Victorian greenhouse.
The main sandstone patio is located outside the house interspersed with planted beds. A further patio is located next to the play area ensuring that young children can be supervised easily
Some existing plants were retained around the walled garden, which were complimented by lower growing shrubs. David Austin standard roses screen the rear which provides some privacy from the house.
