Architectural Planting

The owners of this garden in Dunblane were looking for something to compliment their new extension on their 1980’s house. The client, an architect, had partially introduced levels into the garden with a decked seating area and a new retaining wall immediately outside the extension. This still left a slope in the upper area of the garden which meant the existing lawn was still a bit of a nuisance to cut.

In order to make the garden easier to maintain, two further levels were introduced near the top of the garden using gabion baskets filled with beach pebbles. Half of this top area was laid with gravel and provided a sunny seating area at the end of the day.

The geometric layout of the garden is formed with beige granite slabs which lead the eye from the steps to the upper seating area, past a stainless steel globe water feature and pebble pool.

The planting also reflects the strong architecture within the garden, incorporating an almost tropical feel.
